Prayer for October 26th, 2014

Almighty God, heavenly Father in Jesus Christ our Lord, we thank you for the great and many blessings you have bestowed upon our country and its citizens. We thank you for the gifts of freedom, peace, order, and good government that we may enjoy. We pray for our Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her house, and the Governor General. Bless the Prime Minister, his cabinet, and all the Members of Parliament. Give them an awareness of their duties and responsibilities. Grant unto them wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to preserve the blessings of this country for the benefit of all and to make good laws and wise decisions.

Bless the military. We thank you for our fellow Canadians who are willing and able to serve in the armed forces for the defence of our country. We thank you specifically for the service of the late Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, so brutally murdered this past week. Bless their families and friends as they mourn. May they look to you for true and abiding comfort. We thank you for protecting the Members of Parliament and the Senate from catastrophic harm. We pray for police officers and all first responders.

O heavenly Father, Who hearest humble prayer
Hold our dominion in Thy loving care.
Help us to find O God in Thee a lasting rich reward,
As, waiting for the better day, we ever stand on guard.
God, keep our land glorious and free!

This we ask of you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ who taught us to pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen
